AMERICAN RED CROSS
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION
To be eligible for the Lifeguarding course, the participant must be 15 year of age on or before the final schedule sessions of this course. The participant must successfully complete the following:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
- 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.
- 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
- 100 years of either the front crawl or breaststroke. The 100 years may be combination of front crawl and breaststroke.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 years using front crawl of breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-ound object, return to the surface, swim 20 years back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

- 100% attendance
- Pre-registration and pre-pay is required
Cost includes books ARC Lifeguard, Blood Borne Pathogens Certificates, Professional CPR, AED, Oxygen and First Aid.
REGISTRATION
- Date and time to be announced. Give your name and number to the Front Desk. You will be notified with the date and time.
- A minimum of 6 registrants is required to hold the class.
- A maximum of 12 registrations will be accepted.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION
To be eligible for the YMCA Lifeguard Certification the participant must:
- Be a minimum of 16 years of age prior to certification. Those under the age of 18 must have parental consent to participate in the course.
- Pass the following swim test:
- Perform a long, shallow front dive, then swim 500 yards, including 100 yards each of sidestroke, front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke kick with one arm forward, and inverted breaststroke kick with arm on the stomach.
- Tread water for 2 minutes with legs only.
- Surface dive both head-first and feet-first into 8 to 10 fee of water and swim underwater for 15 feet
