Summer Day Camp Staff

Summer 2024 is quickly approaching which means it is almost time for YMCA Summer Day Camp! We are looking for individuals 18 years and older
to join our summer day camp staff! At the YMCA, we are for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are eagerly searching for dedicated, enthusiastic and responsible individuals to aid and guide our youth during summer camp. Ideal candidates will be expected but
not limited to the following requirements:

  • Participate in numerous indoor and outdoor activities
  • Supervise and engage with campers during scheduled activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
  • Lead and instruct campers in various activities such as sports, arts and crafts and more
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where campers feel valued, respected, and encouraged to participate
  • Influence constant understanding of our Y values: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, and good sportsmanship

Camp will run from June 10th through August 16th. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but extended watch times are from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m.

This position provides direct supervision of a group of children in summer day camp. The staff member can expect:

  • adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
  • attend staff meetings and trainings
  • follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  • maintain positive relations with parents and other staff
 Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings
  • Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but extended watch times are from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5:30 p.m.
